Sergeant Alfred Aubrey Ferguson Stevenson – Service Number 17012
Aubrey was born 13 October 1895 in Belfast.
He had 5 brothers and 2 sisters – the family lived on the Woodstock Road, Belfast – they later moved to The Mount.
Aubrey became an Apprentice Moulder when he left school.
When the war started, Aubrey joined the Young Citizens Volunteers, which later became the 14th Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles.
He was Killed in Action (Missing Presumed Dead) on 16 August 1917, aged 21.
His name is among those on the Thiepval war memorial to the missing from the Somme, in France.
A War Gratuity of £15 was paid to Aubrey’s father as a result of his death.
Aubrey’s elder brother Robert who served with the Royal Engineers, was Killed in Mesopotamia, in May 1918.
